This article in the Globe is potentially game changing. This debate on hydration has been going on for a while now with the South African researchers leading the battle on the "Hydration theories by Gatorade is Crap" side. Sort of having Wall Street be the overseers of the financial markets) - wait a minute they are and that explains a lot of things.
The South African researchers say that "thirst" is serious and you should drink when thirsty but not before. This can be summed up by "nature knows best". When you and the boys are out on the savanna hunting a few wildebeests for the pre- raiding party and you are a few K's away from the local 7 Eleven, why would nature design a system that tells you that you are thirsty when it is already too late.
Now the purveyors of Gatorade, as the article points out, came up with research that says "wait a minute" that's not true. How convenient of them. I am sure their data is as pure as New York snow.
So where are we.
- Fat is good
- Feet are better than running shoes
- Drink when you are thirsty.
Hmmmm
Enjoy the article.

Rethink how you rehydrate when exercising

From Monday's Globe and Mail
How much should I drink during exercise to stay properly hydrated?
The answer
Here’s a riddle posed recently by South African scientists: A group of soldiers undertook a gruelling 14.6-kilometre march during which they lost an average of 1.3 kilograms. But sophisticated measurements with isotope tracers showed the total amount in water in their bodies actually increased by 0.53 kilograms. Where did this “extra” water appear from?
